Got the itch for timed competition? Mohawk-Hudson SCCA is putting on a RallyCross Sunday, February 28th!

In a nutshell, a rallyx is essentially an autocross on a lower grip surface. So usually dirt, but this event will be on ice, Onota Lake to be exact. This is a one-car-on-course-at-a-time event, so it's safer than any wheel-to-wheel clubs and I'd LOVE to see a MINI or two come out! Or your beaters.. (I'm co-driving a Scoobaru myself.)

Classing is going to be divided by powertrain and tire type, so FWD / RWD / AWD and without studs / with studs / with bolts. I'm told by those in the know that there IS grip to be had out there with a good set of studless winter tires so don't let that be an excuse!

Cost and event schedule will be similar to autox, I don't have confirmation yet but that probably means be there by 9am and a cost of $25 for members, $40 for non-. Don't quote me on that. I'll update this thread, or watch the thread over at MoHud.

Any interest or do I have to start making clucking noises and flapping my arms? Kidding.

Hmmmmmmmm, this sounds interesting.  I've been itching to try my Nokian Hakkas on a course.  This could be just the thing.

That's only a 2:30 trip each way.  I would be changing wheels once I got there, that could be cold but do-able.

People involved in setup have been told to be there by 7am, I would expect registration to be more along the lines of 9am with first car off at 10 but I don't have confirmation yet.

Thanks, Zeke. I'll aim for a little after 10. BB, sorry I can't offer you a heated garage to changeover, but I can offer a garage. I'm 10 minutes away from the lake.

As this gets closer, I'll shoot you directions. A non-heated garage may be of some benefit if it's a really windy morning.

So confirmation that it'll follow our autox schedule, that means reg closes at 9:15am, driver's meeting at 10am, and first car off at 10:30am.

This is technically a non-spectator event... I do believe giving John garage space qualifies as being 'crew' though!

Sounds interesting, I'll give it a try, need practice pulling my Mini out of a spin.  Will run with what I drive in with, no studs, but some pretty good winter tires.  Was at MoHud website.  Apparently no prereg necessary.  Just show up and pay, $40 for non-members.  Anyone else heading up from Southern CT?

Even though the fish weren't biting, somebody pulled a really big one out of the lake over the weekend...a truck, that is. Guess the ice isn't as thick as it usually is this time of year. Details are in The Berkshire Eagle.  www.theberkshireeagle.com

Yup, direct link. There will be a truck out plowing the course the night before, so any final determination will be made then at the latest as to whether the event is a 'go' or not. In either case, participants need to be smart about keeping on the thick ice and far away from the open stuff.

It would be nice to have a bottom contour map to look for shallow water.

It's officially cancelled. I guess Onota Lake is a foot of snow, on top of several inches of slush, on top of the ice. Bad time for the snow to come.
