Thought I'd start a thread to spread the word about the local monthly meetings. I know I saw veggievet in Sept! Muh MINI had some involuntary downtime this past week so I didn't make it this month.

What: MINI Performance Group (MPG) is a "special interest group" offshoot of Patroon BMWCCA. The Ipsens and other chief pot-stirrers are finally organizing drives, meets, and various fun mini-related events for the upstate area. They've gotten a bunch of MINIs out at local autocrosses, always paddock together at track days, and have bunches of more stuff planned for the future.

Meetings: first Tuesday of the month, at the Albany Pump Station, 7:15PM, first round is on the house!

Sure to always be a good time. If you're local, show up, and spread the word. For more information and to be included in e-mail updates about going-ons, send a note to Jamie Ipsen to "mpgminis" at hotmail dot com.

And I'm unsure of screen names here versus faces at the meetings, so holler if you're already there. I know a few here are.

Thanks for posting this, Zeke. I had an absolute blast at the Poker Run mpg organized last month. What a great bunch of people. Hope to see you at the next meeting. Kudos to Neil for providing such a great place for these meetings and treating us like paying customers!

Barry, I hope you got some good information from the track talk last night. If you are considering going to Monticello but aren't sure if you'll do more track days after that, you probably would be able to borrow a helmet from another driver in another run group. That would save you the outlay for a helmet if you just want to 'test the waters'.

Regarding helmets, just noticed on SCDA's site that SNELL SA2000 is the required certification - the motorcycle 'MA' type will not fly, FYI.

I would encourage any first timers going to Monticello May 17th to attend Carver's turn by turn briefing the day before at the Albany Pump Station @ 12:30. He did this for me over the phone before my first event there and it was incredibly helpful. You will learn the track much more quickly after hearing his recommendations.

Put Saturday, September 18th on your calendar for the 2nd Annual Poker Run. This time we'll be heading East out of Albany into the Berkshires. I promise lots of great twisties and some fun stops along the way. For the CT crew, I would say that this event would be worth the drive to Albany for the start and finish. I'll be at the meeting next Tuesday, and I'll follow up with some more details as they become available.

Thanks, Carver, but Jamie and Dan are doing the organizing for this event. They deserve all the kudos. All I'm doing is suggesting certain routes and lining up businesses that will have the playing cards.

Went up there a couple of years ago. Not too far from Albany.

I will be out of town towards the end of August so I will miss events scheduled then.

With all the bad luck both of us have been experiencing with our respective cars, I shudder to think of what might happen if both of us were in one MINI for several hours. The car might just disintegrate before our eyes.
