Baron in the Boot Challenge - Please Read!
« on: May 21, 2007, 10:59:14 AM »
Baron in the Boot Challenge:

My friend has cancer, and there is nothing I can do.

My friend has cancer, and all I can do is pray, but by this time, I think God is tired of hearing from me.

As my friend loses his hair, I pop my Propecia pills every morning, and die my hair to look young.

As he loses weight, vomits from the meds, and has to stay away from sugar (a catalyst of cancer) I gorge myself with sweets and anything else that suits my fancy.

He longs to be back on is bike, for the exercise, for the fresh air, for the great outdoors, the camaraderie, the hell of it.

I sit on my ass and eBay.

My friend has cancer, and maybe there IS something I can do.

“THE BARON IN THE BOOT CHALLENGE”

This is the challenge.

I am taking bets, where the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, that I will be able to fit into the boot of my MCS convertible by Christmas Day, 2007* (December 25th 2007).

I am going to have to lose about 30-50 lbs. (I'll take some 'before pics' soon)

I am going to have to get limber enough to bend in half to fit.

I am asking you all to bet AGAINST me, and if YOU lose, I am donating the money to the American Cancer Society. (make your pledge in this thread, or in a PM)

IF I LOSE, then I am donating $1,000 dollars to the AMS.

IF I WIN, I am going to match (up to $1,000) any donations that are ‘lost’ by all of you who bet against me.

THE LEAST amount that will be donated if I win will be $2,000.00.

I also have a ‘matching’ sponsor, who will match WHATEVER it is that we all donate, which means, it could be a $4,000 (or MUCH MORE) donation.

December 25th people, think about how much you’d be able to save up, to bet against me.

If you just consider saving $10.00/month for this, that’s a $60.00 bet.

Twenty Dollars a month (less than a tank of gas) nets a $120.00 bet.

Show your support, there IS something we can do. (and also expect to see me 'bump' this thread up often)

In Mike’s honor.

In the honor of those loved ones some of you had mentioned, that had also gone through this.

Do it for ALL of those effected by this disease.

Or……………Do it just to see me stuffed into the boot of my car!

-Baron

*Here are the rules.

I can do this attempt at ANYTIME between now and x-mas 2007.

I can try it at ANY MINI related gathering (of witnesses) between now and then.

In order to win this challenge, I have to climb into the boot, unassisted, with or without the boot cover in place, with or without the top up, and with or without the soft top ‘clamps’ in the ‘locked position.

Once I am in, the soft top will be locked down, and the boot closed and locked for at least 1 minute (60 seconds). Someone suggested taking out the emergency boot release handle, but I will only do it that way if all witnesses hand me their car keys before I climb in!

Please, reach deep into your hearts, and pull out your wallets!

-B

Fantastic idea, I'm just a little confused though. I'm betting that you won't make by Xmas but you can try multiple times or just once during that time period?

Either way I'll be putting up some cash.

For how much?? (let me know when I see you next week)

Fantastic idea, I'm just a little confused though. I'm betting that you won't make by Xmas but you can try multiple times or just once during that time period?

Either way I'll be putting up some cash.

I CAN try as many times (with witnesses present) that I want, but I probably WILL NOT try until X-Mas, that way, there'll be more of a chance to raise more $$$$.

Count me in....when is the deadline for the amount we decide to bet with? Can we bet now?

You got from NOW until X-mas probably, but you CAN always UP your bet as time goes on......

I'm in.  I've seen way this group likes to eat, the odds are against you.  ;)

B -

This is an awesome idea.  I'm in.  My sister is part of the group that runs the ACS's Relay for Life of Western Berks (Pennsy) in memory of our Dad.  We always support Susan G. Komen and American Cancer Society and this is just another great way of helping out.

Hell, I'd pay just to see you try and stuff yerself into the boot- no ulterior motive (donation) necessary.  Count me in for $50.

I'd throw in another $20 if you paint yourself orange with black stripes for the attempt.   (rotf)

Baron,

You are as brave as you are insane.  I think that's what I like about you...

Great idea, and as Nancy said, we're in - we'll discuss the amount tonight.  I'm a little confused over the "bet" terminology - but I'm willing to make the donation just based on the attempt - your sucess or failure to actually get into the boot matters little.

I'll pay extra if there are deer whistles involved...    (rotf)

I'm in for this as well.

How can anyone pass up seeing an old Jewish guy trying to stuff themself into a car trunk for a worthy cause?

And my money in on Baron!

This seems like a good place to answer all of youse's questions.

First of all, you should all be betting AGAINST me getting in there.

I do it, you all pay.

It seems like there will be many who would just like to SEE ME TRY, or see me succeed (and never come out maybe.... (hmmm))

Well, in that case, bet against me, and come and see me try OR succeed.

I guess the important part for me is the effort. I feel helpless sitting on the sidelines, I would like to get off my ass and DO something meaningful.

Besides, the effort I put into it will also raise awareness, and attract outsiders, newbies, etc. to the cause.

Baron:

What noble and honorable venture.

But wait...you want us to bet against you?  :o

Better hit the weight room and stay away from the Clinton Dinner. But if you do pull this off it could be considered a another performance mod for TANG. Uh... a Stage 1 weight reduction kit guarantee to increase your 0 to 60 times.   :P ;)

Good luck my friend.  8)

I can shell out 50 bucks next week during JTR 4.

This could be interesting.

Are you collecting $'s now - or are we waiting for the attempt?  Will a check made payable to "American Cancer Society" suffice?

All I want now is 'bets' or 'pledges' - I am going to put them on a list, and people can tell me if they want their names publicized or not (if not, then PM me with your 'bet' - if so, then do it in the thread).

The Money will be collected upon my 'success' !! (I think I can- I think I can.....) and yes, donations by check should be made out to the American Cancer Society.

Please remember, this is about raising funds AND awareness......publicity reigns supreme.

I am going to be talking to everyone from local dealers to MINI USA to get the word out.

(Matt is willing to see if he can do it to determine if you can do it!)  Of course we're betting on you losing, so maybe we don't need to try it with Matt!  We're holding off our pledge amount until we get closer (and I have a new job and more money!)
